Tending the Hedge with Annelise – Part 2!

Tending the Hedge with Annelise – Part 2!

With each Tending the Hedge feature I’ve shared, I’ve talked a bit about the ethos behind the series, highlighting individuals who share their magic with the world, and who may inspire us to do the same. I began the series in 2020 as a rejection of scarcity culture, a form of mutual aid, and an effort to lift up those around us. Since the series debuted, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to interview both dear friends of many years and folks I’ve never met, but have admired their work from afar. And as one of the former is undertaking a new journey, I am thrilled to share an update from Tending the Hedge alum Annelise Lallemand!

I stand by my early impressions of Annelise: in 2020 I wrote that “the most delightful thing about Annelise has always been her radical honesty and deep empathy. No small talk, just passion and purpose, and that shines through in every part of her work.” Co-owner of Fishtale, a gift shop on Wolfe Island she founded with her bestie Caitlin, Annelise’s work stems from a deep commitment to her community. And right now, she needs the support of her community!

Since 2021, Annelise has been supplementing her business with baking incredibly delicious goodies, sold at her local farmers’ market under the moniker Lured Bake Shop. Now Lured is looking for a more permanent home, with extensive renovations planned for Fishtale. As Annelise says, “It’s not only a dream of having just one job, in one place, with my best friend on the island we love. It’s a dream of continuing to build a space where people gather, where supporting local comes first. To bake and cook with real ingredients and share that with you all.”

This dream requires a lot of hard work… which you can help support at Annelise’s GoFundMe page!
