The Moon-thly: Full Moon in Leo Roundup

The Moon-thly: Full Moon in Leo Roundup

Hi friends! I’m testing the waters for a new, possibly moon-thly feature— we’ll see how it goes— as I’ve gone off meta platforms and I’m drastically limiting my screentime elsewhere for my mental health, but that hasn’t quelled my desire to share and discuss the things I’m reading, watching, and doing with my witchy community! So without further ado…

What I’m reading

In addition to reading plenty of fiction (I need some witchy escapism!), recently I found the following noteworthy…

“Feeling Helpless? That’s Exactly What They Want.” by Emily Amick
‘This isn’t about pretending everything is fine. It’s about understanding that even in difficult circumstances, we have the power to choose how we engage. Meaning emerges from our choice to be present, to care, to take part in shaping our shared story.’

“Nature Is Always Listening: The Wondrous Science of How Mushrooms Respond to Music” by Maria Popova
‘What an astonishing world we live in — a world in which, as the poetic naturalist John Muir observed epochs before our science, “when we try to pick out anything by itself, we find it hitched to everything else in the universe.”’

“Get Yourself a Go Bag” by Margaret Killjoy
‘For most people, in most disaster situations, a go bag is what you need if you are fleeing a medium-scale disaster that requires you to leave your house for awhile. This is the bag you want if you have to sleep in your car for a night or stay a week with family or friends in the next state over or evacuate to a relief center.’

Immigrant Legal Resources Center Red Cards / Tarjetas Rojas
‘All people in the United States, regardless of immigration status, have certain rights and protections under the U.S. Constitution. The ILRC’s Red Cards help people assert their rights and defend themselves in many situations, such as when ICE agents go to a home.’ FREE printable* PDFs are available here!
*It feels worth noting that this week I had to print and fax some documents. I went to my local library and used their printer and fax, and it was only $4! Local libraries are an incredible resource, and we need to support them too right now.

What I’m watching

Garun and I are eagerly devouring each new episode of Severance‘s second season, and we’ve watched a few movies recently too! For movie updates, check out HWB on Letterboxd! Follow…

What I’m listening to

I love listening to podcasts when I’m in the car, my studio, etc. I recently discovered Live Like the World is Dying, and I’m enjoying ShrinkChicks’ “How do I build self trust?” episode…

What I’m eating

Credit for this one goes to my sister-in-law, who made this French toast casserole for Christmas breakfast, and when I recently made it for my book club’s brunch potluck, it was a hit. Bonus: it can be prepped the night before and then baked right before serving, making it super easy for gatherings. (Also, book club brunches are the best— humans need community, and I am very thankful for mine!)
