The Moon-thly: Full Moon in Scorpio Roundup

The Moon-thly: Full Moon in Scorpio Roundup

Hi friends! This month has been a whirlwind, as we’re so close to closing the sale of our future home… and the future home of Hedge Witch Farms! Though I’ve been quite busy, I still have plenty to share, including…

What I’m reading

Bro-Natalists Are Ruining America” by Jessica Valenti
If you haven’t already, please subscribe to Jessica Valenti’s Abortion, Every Day. I am deeply appreciative of all the great journalistic coverage she provides on repro-rights during these incredibly fraught times.

“Without the Awful Roar of Its Many Waters, or: False Nonviolence Won’t Save You” by Margaret Killjoy
This essay really captured my attention, particularly after recently attending a May Day protest. While there, I heard a couple of attendees complaining about another protest-goer who was verbally engaging with pro-tr*mp counter protestors— “it’s not the message we want to send,” etc., etc. Now, I am of the opinion that to be pro-tr*mp is to be pro-fascist, and I was squarely in the camp of the engaging protestor, but more importantly… it wasn’t my place to critique their protest. I think one of the admitted strengths of the political right is that they have a broad coalition, while the left is often prone to cannibalizing itself. We can be too quick to critique our own allies for “not doing it right,” whatever it may be, and as Killjoy writes, “We have no reason to believe that being law-abiding will save us. We have every reason to believe that building antifascist solidarity across ideological and tactical lines might.”

“Walpurgisnacht: Cats at the Witches’ Sabbath” by Kristen Sollée
Just do yourself a favor and read everything Kristen Sollée writes. Really, you won’t regret it.

What I’m watching

As we lay some of the groundwork (no pun intended) for the future Hedge Witch Farms, I’ve been thinking a lot about the concept of land “ownership,” and who is allowed to “own” land in America. In addition to recognizing whose land we currently occupy (learn more here!), I think it’s important to recognize the racist and exclusionary history of farming in America.

In addition to the odd youtube video, Garun and I have been binge watching Culinary Class Wars— ah, the strange melodrama of reality TV!

What I’m listening to

Blúiríní Béaloidis is one of my absolute favorite podcasts, and this recent episode on “Food in Irish Tradition” was a fascinating listen!

What I’m eating

We rarely eat out, as Garun loves to cook and I… like to cook sometimes. To keep things fair, I’m trying to cook more often, and recently made this lemon caper chicken dish that will be going into regular rotation— it tastes fancy and impressive, but was actually quite easy to make!

What I’m doing

I’m still being a sticker menace in my community… and beyond! A recent trip out of town gave numerous opportunities for affixing Plan C stickers

…and I’m still distributing pro-choice fliers within my community— it’s super easy to carry a handful in my purse and then leave a few in public places like restrooms, community cork boards, etc. Download the printable “Your Body, Your Choice” fliers (PDF linked below image):
