The Moon-thly: Full Moon & Lunar Eclipse in Pisces

The Moon-thly: Full Moon & Lunar Eclipse in Pisces

Hi friends! Summer is winding down, the night’s are getting cooler, and I am SO ready for autumn! This month I have a few recommendations including…

What I’m reading

Check out #spellbooksaturday posts for my recent recommendations, as well as…

“Unnatural, unnecessary and universally destructive: Lawns Are the Perfect Metaphor for Patriarchy” by Celeste Davis
As both an ardent feminist and a new homeowner battling the tyranny of lawn maintenance, this essay spoke to me.

“Enough of ‘Just Asking Questions’: Platforming extremists is killing democracy—and women” by Jessica Valenti
“Our suffering isn’t imaginary, and conservative laws don’t exist in the ether—they’re etched onto our bodies with septic miscarriages, lost fallopian tubes, and emergency hysterectomies. If we’re lucky. Women are dying and Republicans are, quite literally, killing us.”

“What Not Reading Costs Men — and Everyone Else” by Katie Jgln
“Perhaps it’s no coincidence that the decline in reading in recent decades has gone hand in hand with an increase in social fracturing, polarisation, loneliness, anti-democratic sentiment, and extremist radicalisation — particularly online, and particularly among young men and boys.”

“Filling the Woodshed: Practice, devotion, and a commitment to time” by Nora Revenaugh
Former Tending the Hedge magic-maker Nora‘s monthly musings are always thoughtful, I highly recommend subscribing to her work.

What I’m watching

The V&A has an admittedly checkered history (as do most major museums), but I’ve enjoyed their YouTube features like this one:

For movie updates, check out HWB on Letterboxd! (This month I really enjoyed Weapons, and was unimpressed by Phantasm.) Follow…

What I’m listening to

On a recent high-anxiety day, I came across this podcast and it felt like kismet:

What I’m doing

There are times when being self-employed and living in the middle of nowhere can feel really isolating, and so I have been making an effort to establish connections in my new community. One such effort has paid off marvelously— joining a local fiber arts club! Meeting at the public library twice monthly gives me time away from the house and its attendant projects (there’s always something to do in the world of homeownership), has introduced me to some friendly new folks, and inspired me to finally learn how to knit on circular needles. I am taking immense pride in my first knit cap, lumpy as it may be, and am thankful for the acquaintances I am cultivating through this group!

Another way I’m reaching out to my community? I am thrilled to announce that I am once again offering tarot readings! After taking a few months off for our move, I am very excited to resume private readings, and am booking both IRL and via Zoom. Let’s share some magic together!
