I’m generally a fan of historic fiction, especially when tinged with magic, and Arden blends the two skillfully, exploring the complexities of survivor’s guilt and trauma. The dual narrators are well-developed, with neither allowing the story to lag, and as the two timelines converged I found I couldn’t put the book down, it was so captivating.
