Last week the state of Mississippi pushed for the US Supreme Court to overturn Roe v Wade, the 1973 ruling that made abortion legal nationwide. The court’s composition, with a 6-3 conservative majority, gives legitimate reason for concern as to the fate of abortion access in the US. From The Guardian: “The filing came as one reproductive rights advocate warned that she believed half of US states would ban abortion altogether if Roe versus Wade was overturned, as anti-abortion extremists gain ground and Republican-dominated state legislatures continue their work of recent years to strip back a woman’s choice.”

Now, as many of my followers likely already know, I am staunchly pro-choice. Absolutely no one else should make decisions about if, when, and under what circumstances individuals have children, thus preventing us from exerting agency over our work, lives, relationships, and bodies. As far as I’m concerned, bodily autonomy is our birthright, its pursuit a pillar of radical self-care, and abortion is healthcare— end of discussion.

As such, I am so pleased to offer Catherine Marie Jeunet’s Reclaiming Our Ancient Wisdom: Herbal Abortion Procedure and Practice for Midwives and Herbalists. This zine from Eberhardt Press provides useful information for herbalists, midwives, and birthing-folk looking to take control of their reproductive futures through plant-based medicines.

And I am thrilled to announce that $1 from every purchase of this zine will be donated to Yellowhammer Fund, a 501(c)3 abortion fund and reproductive justice organization serving Alabama and the Deep South.

Now of course, sharing this work would not be complete without a disclaimer: I am not a medical professional, and the information contained within this pamphlet is for the education of the reader, but does not constitute a comprehensive set of instructions, nor is this a DIY manual. However, I believe that the history and knowledge of herbal methods should be preserved and made broadly accessible.

Stay safe, stay magic, and remember— knowledge is power.
